Abstract. English writing is an important part of English teaching, College English writing is one of the most critical indicators of students’ comprehensive and applicative level. On-line writing lab provides a new platform for online English writing .This paper analyzed the current situation of college English writing, introduced the main contents of on-line English writing, explored the design and implementation of on-line English writing. On-line English writing has played a vital role in pushing forward the reform of college English writing.

  1. The current situation of College English writing
  It goes without saying that wrting is regarded as the most important output skills in English teaching. Among the five skills in college English, that is, listening ,speaking, reading, writing and translating, writing is the most difficult skill to grasp. CET-4, CET-6 he set the minimum points of writing, but according to the researches, the erage points of writing usually get 7, it hasn't attained the passing line, the students' writing level hasn't got a substantial increase actually. The phenomenon caught the attention of the teaching staff, especially the experts and scholars of English writing. They he a wide discussion and in-depth study about this: First, The teachers and students hen't enough concern about writing. Second, We hen't enough English input, only he poor writing contents. Third, We also hen't a perfect writing environment and only he simple evaluation methods. Fourth, We lack of writing class time, we can't carry on the system of writing teaching. So, there are lots of grammatical mistakes, Chinese- English , poor expressions in students' writing papers.
  Writing is a highly comprehensive and practical process, at the same time, it is also a very complicated dynamic process. At present, in writing class, most teachers still carry out the "teacher-based" method. Many teachers develop a writing class like this: They firstly instruct some writing strategies, explain some samples in notebook, let students imitate the samples and try to write themselves, then collect students' writing papers to correct and comment on them next time.Thus, the teachers are very tired and get little achievements. Many students will also make the same mistake which the teacher had corrected for them, and they tend to do wrong again and again. It proves that though the students he learned some knowledge in English writing, they actually hen't grasped the writing skills. Fortunately, some teachers try to explore some new writing practice: to correct the compositions each other; to he a pair-work in discussing; or to he a debate among the whole class, ect. Due to the limitations of traditional English writing, the teaching effect is not satiactory so far.
